How to Play
The Royal Game of Ur · ~2600 BC
Each player has
7 pieces
starting off the board. Roll 4 dice — each die scores 0 or 1. Your roll total (0–4) is how many squares to move.
Enter a piece onto your first square by using a roll. Move any one piece forward by the roll amount each turn.
Both players share the
middle row
(squares 5–12 of the path). You cannot land on your own pieces.
Capture:
Landing on an opponent's piece in the shared section sends it back off the board.
Rosette squares
(✿) are safe — pieces here cannot be captured. Landing on a rosette also grants a
free extra roll
!
To bear a piece off, you must roll the exact number needed to exit. A roll of 0 forfeits your turn.
First player to bear all
7 pieces
off the board wins!
