The Rules of Senet

Senet is one of the oldest known board games, played in Ancient Egypt for over 3,000 years. The board has 30 squares arranged in a serpentine path. Each player has 5 pieces and races to be the first to bear all pieces off the board.

Players alternate turns. Cast the 4 sticks — each has a light and dark side.
Count the light sides up for your move. All dark = move 5.
You may not land on your own piece. You may swap with an opponent's piece unless it is protected.
Two or more consecutive opponent pieces form a blockade — you may not pass through.
To bear off, you must land exactly on square 30 and roll the required number; or be on squares 26–29 and roll past the board.
